How to Choose Restaurant POS Software in India: A 10-Point Checklist
· 7 min read
Most restaurant owners compare POS software on price and a demo. The questions below help you compare what actually matters on a busy Friday night and at month-end.
The checklist
Ask every vendor the same questions, and ask to see each answer in the product rather than on a slide.
- GST: does the bill show GSTIN, FSSAI and a CGST/SGST split, with tax-inclusive and exclusive pricing?
- Payments: UPI QR, cards, cash and split payments on one bill?
- Kitchen: KOTs routed by station, printed or on a screen?
- Inventory: does a sale deduct stock from recipes automatically?
- Reports: sales, tax, payments, staff and P&L, exportable to CSV?
- Staff access: separate logins and permissions for discounts, refunds and voids?
- Online orders: how do Swiggy, Zomato or website orders reach the kitchen?
- Connectivity: what happens when the internet drops, and what do you recommend as a backup?
- Hardware: which printers and devices work, and do you need to buy proprietary hardware?
- Pricing and exit: what is included in each plan, are there setup fees, and can you export your data if you leave?
Questions about the vendor
Ask how onboarding works, who loads your menu and taxes, how quickly support replies and what hours it is available. A cheaper plan with slow support costs more than a fairly priced one that answers during service.
Run a trial with real orders
Use a free trial or a demo on your own menu. Bill ten typical orders, split a payment, apply a discount, send a KOT and run the day's report. If any step is awkward in the demo it will be worse at the counter.
Run your restaurant on one system
GST billing, KOTs, inventory and reports from Rs 1,499 per month.
