UPI QR Billing for Restaurants: Setup, Reconciliation and Common Mistakes
· 5 min read
UPI is now how many guests prefer to pay. Taking it well means matching every payment to a bill, not just showing a QR code.
Static QR vs a QR on each bill
A single static QR sticker is easy but the guest enters the amount, so mistakes happen and payments are hard to match to bills. A QR generated for the exact bill amount reduces errors and speeds up the counter.
Reconcile at the end of the day
Compare the UPI total in your POS report with your bank or payment app settlement. A POS that records payment method per bill makes this a two-minute check instead of an hour with a register.
- Record payment method on every bill
- Check the day's UPI total against the settlement
- Investigate gaps the same day, not at month end
Split payments
Groups often split one table across cash, card and UPI. Your POS should accept several payments against one bill and show the remaining balance, so staff are not splitting the bill on a calculator.
Common mistakes
Staff marking a bill as UPI before the payment lands, discounts without approval, and refunds that are not recorded. Permissions and an activity log catch all three.
