The formula
Selling price = ingredient cost / target food cost %. A dish costing Rs 56 with a 30% target should sell for about Rs 187 before tax. Round to a sensible menu price such as Rs 189 or Rs 190, then check the resulting food cost percentage.
If your menu prices are tax-inclusive, the calculator shows the price with GST added so you can compare it against competing menus.
Frequently asked questions
- Should I price only on food cost?
- Food cost is a starting point. Also consider competitor prices, what guests will pay, labour and rent, and how the dish affects the rest of the order.
- Do I add GST on top?
- That depends on whether your menu shows prices with tax included or added at billing. The calculator shows both so you can choose.
